Why did the developer lay asphalt on the driveway and not concrete or interlocking pavers?
Asphalt is most affordable, and it handles freeze–thaw cycles reasonably better than concrete, that's why the developer chose this material. In hot weather, asphalt can soften slightly, which can lead to sunken areas where cars are parked or frequently driven over. In very cold regions like Toronto, with harsh freeze–thaw cycles, interlocking pavers or concrete with proper joints may offer better long-term resilience.
